Our Artist to Artist series invites musicians to take part in free, unmoderated discussions, discovering along the way the things that draw them together. This month, we’re relaunching it with a new talk between sound artist Rani Jambak and vocal improviser Supriya Nagarajan.
A sound artist and ecological activist, Rani Jambak has been creating work as our Musician In Residence. She’s interested in our experiences of the environment, and the ancestry found within it. Using field recordings as her base, Rani’s work is explorative and experimental, telling stories about her home city of Medan.
As part of her residency, Rani has been connecting with local Huddersfield artists, trading ideas and getting a feel for the town’s environmental history. In this illuminating conversation, she’s joined by Kirklees-based Supriya Nagarajan, a founding member of the artist-led organisation Manasamitra. A prolific collaborator, vocal improviser and creative mentor, Supriya’s projects have explored nature and community, and the ways they intertwine.
