Launched in 2022, The Current Climate is our ongoing exploration of the cultural world’s far-reaching influence on sustainability, considering issues involving artists, organisers and audiences around the world via discussions, workshops and artistic responses to the climate crisis.
hcmf// 2025 sees us collaborate with the University of Huddersfield’s Centre for Cultural Ecologies in Art, Design and Architecture (CEADA) and Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM) to present a day of free programming in a crossover between The Current Climate and the Cultures of Climate programme.
Across a day-long programme of free-to-attend performances and installations, this exciting three-way collaboration platforms compelling new works by researchers from the School of Arts & Humanities, exploring the power of art in all its forms to emphasise and amplify our relationship with the environment.

Cultures of… is a place-based public programme curated by CEADA and based on a different theme every year. In 2025, Cultures of Climate showcases responses to the climate crisis through art and creative activities which have included Town Island, a multidisciplinary installation by Benaiah Matheson exploring cultural and historical connections between Huddersfield and Carriacou, Grenada; Re3, a group exhibition focused on re-using, re-making and re-thinking; and The Properties of Darkness, an exhibition by Heavy Water Collective showcasing work created in response to archival collections during their Cultures of Climate residency (running until 18 September 2025).
CeReNeM is a community of world-leading artists and scholars who bring innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives to research in composition, performance, sonic arts and multimedia, music technology, improvisation, analysis, and new music studies.
