Acclaimed Icelandic bassist and composer Bára Gísladóttir brings her extended work SILVA to the UK for the first time. Composed for processed double bass, the piece is built on the idea of a downwards-growing forest, living its own secret life of underground raves and meditative cohesiveness. It is a continuation of Gísladóttir’s investigations into movement and direction in musical form, inverting and reorienting the behaviour of nature.
SILVA is performed by Gísladóttir solo, its entirety of sounds drawn from the double bass, processed with software and layered into an impressive mass of noise. Beyond its incorporation of her interests in classical and contemporary music, the piece is imbued with other myriad fascinations: alternative music, experimental, heavy metal, noise, drone, techno and electronica.
