This week, we’re thrilled to be launching Lockdown Patchwork, a new community-driven sound piece created by Leafcutter John.
Co-commissioned by hcmf// and Leeds Art Gallery, Lockdown Patchwork explores our relationship with nature during the Covid-19 pandemic, and is constructed from publicly-submitted field recordings people have made in their local green spaces. The hour-long piece includes a hand-drawn map showing where each contributing field recording was made, who recorded it and where it appears in the artwork. The recording will be presented alongside an audio file which will be available to stream and download. You can read more about Leafcutter John’s project, and what he discovered through making the piece, in our feature.
To celebrate the release of Lockdown Patchwork, we’ll be co-hosting a launch event with Leeds Art Gallery, featuring Leafcutter John discussing the project in conversation with BBC Radio 6 presenter Stuart Maconie, followed by the premiere of his sound work. This launch event takes place on Thursday 25 March at 7pm, and will be available from the Leeds Art Gallery website – to view the event, simply visit this link at at the scheduled date and time and click refresh.
