Hosted by Riot Ensemble conductor and artistic director Aaron Holloway-Nahum, the Zeitgeist Q&A features the six composers featured in hcmf// 2020’s edition of the Zeitgeist Commissions: Anna Appleby, Auclair, Matthew Grouse, Hannah Kendall, Tonia Ko and Heloise Tunstall-Behrens.
In the Q&A, our composers took part in wide-ranging conversations, going in-depth on their scores, the experience of working with Riot Ensemble performers, and the personal backstories of their pieces. You can watch the Q&A, and find a playlist of the Zeitgeist Commissions, below.
The Zeitgeist Commissions will receive their first ever live performances at hcmf// 2021.
In 2020, we teamed up with The Riot Ensemble on six new Zeitgeist Commissions. The Zeitgeist project was launched by the Riot Ensemble as a response to the worldwide lockdown caused by Covid-19. In an attempt to keep music flowing and work for composers circulating, the group teamed up with Zeitgeist, an online gallery that presents contemporary work through a digital lens. Ahead of hcmf// 2020, we joined the Riot Ensemble in commissioning six further pieces for the Zeitgeist project, each written for a solo instrument.
The Zeitgeist Commissions are co-commissioned by the Riot Ensemble and hcmf// in partnership with Zeitgeist Online Gallery
