At hcmf// 2020, we launched our Artist to Artist talk series. Created in partnership with SPARC at City University London, as well as the Centre For Research in New Music (CeReNeM) at Huddersfield University, we produced three fascinating talks between musicians at vastly different stages of their musical career.

We’re now delighted to share the full archive of these talks on the dedicated Artist to Artist section of our website. From this page, you can watch new talks created for the series, recorded this year, alongside the three talks recorded for hcmf// 2020.

For Artist to Artist talks, there are no hosts, no questions and no themes – instead, we ask our artists to improvise a little, to discuss the similarities and differences found in their music, and to learn about each other as we do. Through the series, we hope to create conversation that’s free-flowing, and that allows our artists to discuss the things at the heart of their practice.

As of right now, you can watch three new episodes of the series, capturing first encounters between Alvin Curran + Leafcutter JohnAnn Cleare + Carola Bauckholt, and Laura Ducceschi + Sasha Elina, all of whom were reacting to one another’s work for the first time. We’re also sharing the three talks created for last year’s festival, including Auclair + Annea Lockwood, Mariam Rezaei + George E. Lewis, and Clara Iannotta + Cassandra Miller.
