In 2019 we ran the Huddersfield Development Programme for Women In Electronic Music. Working alongside the Centre For Research in New Music (CeReNeM), we selected five women composers to create a new piece of music, granting them access to the Huddersfield Immersive Sound System (HISS), an incredible 66-speaker sound system that serves as its own, unique instrument. Now CeReNeM have put together a documentary about the programme, digging into the mentoring and music involved, as well as our attempts to challenge the inequalities found in sound tech.
The composers involved all received mentoring from CeReNeM and hcmf//, and later got the chance to premiere their new music at hcmf// shorts 2019. In this documentary, composers Heloise Tunstall-Behrens, Sophie Cooper and Georgia Rodgers discuss the making of their pieces, and their experiences of using the HISS.
