Pat Thomas piano

Pat Thomas (UK, 1960)
improvisation 50’

Eminent pianist Pat Thomas plays with all the imagination and adventurousness that comes with growing up in a household surrounded by the music of Handel, Beethoven, Lee “Scratch” Perry and Little Richard all in one. Studying classical piano as a child, before finding his way to jazz as a teenager and electronic abstractions beyond that, his improvisational style benefits from deliberate, flavourful and well-managed intent. Collaborating with Derek Bailey and Lol Coxhill and playing with the likes of John Butcher, Matana Roberts, Mike Cooper, Peter Brotzmann, Chris Corsano and Mats Gustaffson over the years, Thomas’ musicianship has only become more inventive over time. He brings his signature approach to hcmf// 2022, appearing for a performance of solo improvisation on piano.
