The London Sinfonietta returns to hcmf// with an electrifying programme of premieres and contemporary works from across Europe and beyond.
Laurence Osborn’s Mute – a cycle of “anti-concertos” – explores stifled voices and the fragile act of being heard, turning the traditional soloist-ensemble relationship on its head as individual instruments are periodically overwhelmed by their own solos and ensemble forces.
Also featured is the world premiere of Mi libro es la Tierra: Rosa Ixchel by Mexican composer Luis Fernando Amaya – a vivid tapestry of myth, memory, and sound than transforms the concert space into a site of listening, offering, and remembrance; UK premieres from Polish composers Marta Śniady and Paweł Malinowski, presented as part of the UK/Poland Season 2025; and haunting soundscapes by Žibuoklė Martinaitytė and Estonian composer Liisa Hirsch, whose Where They Grow their Leaves (2015) offers a meditation on growth and transformation.
Performed with the London Sinfonietta’s trademark clarity and commitment, this programme presents thought-provoking music that resonates across borders and identities – a powerful reminder of contemporary music’s ability to reflect and reimagine the world around us.
Co-produced by hcmf// and London Sinfonietta as part of the UK/Poland Season 2025; supported by Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute and the British Council and co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; also supported by Estonian Centre of Contemporary Music, Lithuanian Culture Institute, Music Information Centre Lithuania, Hinrichsen Foundation, Vaughan Williams Foundation and the hcmf// Friends
