Musical Mudlarking: River Colne (2025) 17’ World Premiere

Musical Mudlarking is an homage to the River Colne in Colchester, Essex. An exploration of the brackish waters of a brackish area. Where the sewage works sits opposite the university, where the nature reserve has a view of the motorcycle breakers yard.

A soundscape of live bubbling mud percolates beneath a collage of riverside field recordings and up-cycled instruments – all born from the mud. Bird whistles made from recycled plastic, one-string guitars from driftwood, and melodies from sampled kissing gates. This is the sound of a river and those who call it home.
