DEAR, DEAR (Lithuania)
Dear, Dear (2024-present) 40’ UK Premiere

Lithuanian duo DEAR, DEAR make their UK debut with an intimate performance for piano and analogue synthesisers that explores friendship, influence and artistic connection through sound.

Formed by composer and synthesist Agnė Matulevičiūtė and pianist Marta Finkelštein, DEAR, DEAR emerged from a shared interest in the meeting point between acoustic and electronic music. Their acclaimed project Dear, Dear has quickly established itself as one of the most distinctive new works on Lithuania’s experimental music scene, earning a nomination for Best Composition of the Year from the Lithuanian Composers’ Union and performances at leading festivals and venues across the country.

The title Dear, Dear is a reference to the format of a love letter, the creators paying tribute to their most important musical inspirations – John Cage, Meredith Monk, Nils Frahm, Hania Rani, Maurice Ravel, Angelo Badalamenti, Suzanne Ciani, Ryuichi Sakomoto, Chilly Gonzales, Nicolas Jaar. The performance becomes a map of their experiences and inspirations, in which well-known, beloved works become the starting point for a conversation between two artists, two instruments, and the music that has shaped them.

At the same time, it is also a love letter from Matulevičiūtė and Finkelštein to each other – to the accomplice of the creative act.
