Developed by David Sappa, Foreshores Rising is a set of kinetic and non-kinetic sound objects made up of items collected from the shores of the river Thames (old iron nails, hooks and shrapnel, clay shards, pipe stems and bulbs, driftwood and glass), alongside experimental field recordings taken on location of these finds, that diffuse and resonate from within the materials themselves.

The set of objects form an improvisational environment (or self-sounding installation), inspired by the eerie collisions of time and asymmetries of abundance that unfurl amidst these dockland and river spaces.

Working through material memories, animism and non-linear confluent timelines (how the past casts spectres on our present), this piece seeks to re-animate these pasts physically through haunted material assemblages, movement and sound. Their stories are teased out through a 20-minute improvisation.
