Irish violinist Darragh Morgan, hailed as a ‘new music wizard’ by The Strad, returns to hcmf// with a solo violin and electronics performance that promises to mesmerise. Central to the programme are three works featured on his 2025 album For Violin and Electronics Vol II (Diatribe Records) – Shiva Feshareki’s Zohra, Irene Buckley’s Liminalis, and Frank Lyons’ Dazed by the Haze. Released this July, the album was recognised as Best Classical Music on Bandcamp by Peter Margasak, who praised how “Morgan traces gorgeous melodic shapes that seem to drift in and out of the electronic clouds.”
The programme also features the world premiere of Angharad Davies’ Pentref y Feiolinau / Village of Violins, developed with Morgan for an upcoming release on Ty Cerrd Records, offering a fresh and imaginative sonic landscape that brings the violin into unexpected territories.
Morgan’s long association with hcmf// includes his acclaimed 2006 performances of Morton Feldman’s complete piano and string chamber music with John Tilbury and The Smith Quartet, shortlisted for an RPS Award and widely praised by the music press. With this new programme, audiences are invited to witness a fearless exploration of the violin’s possibilities, where acoustic beauty meets cutting-edge electronics in a performance that is both intimate and exhilarating.
“Violin is a site of adventure for Darragh Morgan… there’s a bit of everything: dissonant clashes between the two voices, Paganini-like riffs, romantic melodies and lush minimalism… Morgan presents a vision of the breadth of composition for violin and electronics.”
