We’re thrilled to learn that a recording of Magnus Granberg’s composition Let Pass My Weary Guiltless Ghost will be released by Another Timbre. The piece received its UK Premiere at hcmf// 2019, performed by Granberg’s ensemble Skogen at Bates Mill Blending Shed.
It’s typical of Granberg to make gorgeous, delicate music connecting completely different strands of history; with Let Pass My Weary Guiltless Ghost, he was influenced by the Tudor-era poetry of Anne Boleyn and the jazz staple You Must Believe In Spring, most famously recorded by pianist Bill Evans. The piece is full of these disparate pasts, with gentle improvisations taking place throughout the ensemble, in minute chain reactions.
Another Timbre will release Let Pass My Weary Guiltless Ghost on CD in May 2020. Essential listening for Granberg fans and newcomers alike, a sample of the recording is available below.
