‘In Here it’s not Prison’: Engaging vulnerable and stigmatized communities in composition
hcmf// is excited to be invited to the third Research SIMM-Posium in Porto.
This global meeting brings together professionals working to create a ‘Social Impact in Music Making’. Alexandra Richardson, our Learning & Participation officer, will deliver a presentation alongside University of Huddersfield lecturer Toby Martin, discussing our community project Momentum II. This project emphasised song-writing and collaboration, and was developed to engage refugees and asylum seekers at The Reach Project, as well as inmates at HMP Leeds, in composition, challenging the stigmas that make creative pursuits inaccessible for these marginalised groups. ‘In Here it’s not Prison’ will be presented on Saturday 19 May in the meeting’s first session.
