Huddersfield Professional Development Programme for Female Composers of Electronic Music

In partnership with the Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM) at the University of Huddersfield, hcmf// invites applications from female-identifying composers of electronic music to participate in a new professional development programme as part of the festival’s broader commitment to the Keychange initiative.

The programme offers an opportunity to compose a new work to be presented on the 48-channel/66-loudspeaker Huddersfield Immersive Sound System (HISS) in a concert during the hcmf// shorts programme in November 2019.

The selected composers will participate in an initial workshop on presenting work for electronics on large multichannel loudspeaker systems during the Electric Spring festival on Thursday, 21 February 2019. You’ll learn about the HISS setup and speaker configuration, and you’ll have opportunities to learn and practise loudspeaker diffusion techniques and strategies. You will also be invited to attend the afternoon rehearsals and evening concert for the Electric Spring performance by Lauren Sarah Hayes.

In addition to the workshop, the selected participants will have opportunities to work in the multichannel studios at the University of Huddersfield during the summer of 2019, including the 25.4-channel SPIRAL studio, and will also receive professional mentoring from the hcmf// team.

This programme is aimed at emerging composers based in the UK whose work has not yet been widely performed in a professional context, as well as composers of acoustic music who would like to pursue future work with electronics.
