Selena Kay and Cerys Hogg have collaborated as an experimental electronic duo for over five years. With roots in classical contemporary composition, jazz improvisation and visual art, KOGG incorporate composed, generative, and improvised elements.
KOGG create a rich and diverse sound world drawn from a variety of sources. In performance they utilise an array of high and low-tech instruments, including electronic, acoustic, and homemade instruments, coupled with live and sampled video projection. Their music takes the listener on an unchartered journey of off-centre melodies and elastic rhythms, creating an immersive audio-visual feast for the ears and eyes.
KOGG have performed with the Ligeti Quartet and were recently runners-up at Nonclassical’s Battle of the Bands.
KOGG performed music from their forthcoming debut album Mechanista as part of the hcmf// shorts programme, featuring everything from manipulated recorder, sampled vocals and workshop tools to miniature mechanical piano and excerpts of Béla Bartók’s century-old wax cylinder recordings of folk singers. This multi-textured presentation also included moments of theatricality and humour, leaning into the more playful aspects of the hcmf// shorts day.
