A founding member of Huddersfield recording studio and events space Bassment, Jake Burdass also DJs, makes music and runs record labels. Bassment’s reputation precedes it; one of West Yorkshire’s preeminent spots for bassline, jungle and drum ‘n’ bass, it’s known for its legendary club nights and big-name bookings. For Burdass, Bassment is also an attempt at honouring the massive legacy Huddersfield has for soundsystem culture.
In taking part in the hcmf// Young Curators’ Programme, Burdass hopes to broaden Bassment’s reach, bringing its sound to audiences who might not know about Huddersfield’s electronic music scene. He wants to put rave music in a new context, giving it unexpected new spaces to exist in.
