This Spring, hcmf// is pleased to welcome Helen Anahita Wilson for an artist spotlight, highlighting her work across our digital platforms.
Helen is an award-winning composer, sound artist, pianist, and improviser, and holds a PhD in Music and Health Humanities. Her background extends across both classical music education and contemporary music practice, touring extensively throughout Europe and India. As a composer and performer, she primarily explores the creative, biological possibilities of music, with influences incorporating everything from botanical signals and South Asian classical music to attitudes on cancer treatment and cultivated environments of care.
In 2022, Helen presented the world premiere KRANKENHAUSFUNK and the extrinsic death receptor pathway for electronics and synths as part of hcmf// shorts. A sonic reimagining of the patient experience in hospitals, the performance reflected her own experience of cancer treatment during the pandemic. Helen is also a member of our Fielding Talent artist development network.
Over the next few weeks, we will be promoting new directions taken by Helen’s work through features on our website. Following an interview that introduces her practice more thoroughly, Helen will share a feature on botanical sound as well as the opportunity for us to listen to her projects.
