Yorkshire-based musician Linda Jankowska‘s practice orbits around long-term collaborations and multifaceted modes of working with sound. Primarily a violinist, she operates at the delta of instrumental performance, improvisation and composition. She has performed at a range of international festivals as a chamber musician and as a soloist, also recording for Carrier Records, Another Timbre and more. Additionally, she is a founding member and co-artistic director of Distractifold Ensemble.

Her piece for the hcmf// 2024 shorts programme, Parable of the Prize of Heaven, followed a three-part trajectory of a set of biomythographic narratives derived from her Catholic upbringing. Field recordings of church spaces, organs, reverberating footsteps and glass merged with vibrating transducers on cymbals, friends reading quotes from Octavia Butler and Søren Kierkegaard, and circuit-bent Casios to create a non-linear sonic journey through locations, people, relationships and existential ideologies. The piece served as both a reflection and a question of the nature of the organisation of life through religion.
