A new collaboration between hcmf// and Indonesian women composer collective Perempuan Komponis: Forum & Lab has been selected to receive support as part of the British Council’s Connections Through Culture 2023.

Designed to foster new cultural partnerships between East Asia and the UK, the Connections Through Culture grants programme is instrumental in offering support to new ideas, innovations and collaborations from artists and cultural organisations at any stage in development.

hcmf// and Perempuan Komponis: Forum & Lab will co-produce Networking Archive: UK – Indonesia Contemporary Music, a digital residency exploring experimental music and sound art. Four participants from the UK and Indonesia will collaborate on new musical works, with outputs from the residency shared digitally and culminating in a performance in Indonesia.

About Connections Through Culture

British Council’s Connections Through Culture programme has supported 76 new art collaborations between East Asia and the UK from 2020 – 2023.

Grants supported in the most recent round of the programme are focused on two distinct areas: diversity and inclusion, and addressing climate change. These international, cross-disciplinary collaborative efforts will inspire new approaches to addressing global challenges.

The grants support new connections, exchanges and collaborations, helping bolster long-term cooperation and relationship-building between artists, cultural professionals, creative practitioners and art and cultural organisations, hubs, networks, and collectives.
