Using extended techniques and the mixing of synthesised and electronically processed sounds, String Air Synthesis perform composed and improvised pieces in microtonal and even temperament for Kharkiv-style bandura and flute. This programme includes pieces by both members of the duo, arrangements of pieces by John Cage and Julian Kytasty and free and structured improvisations.
Volodymyr Voyt and Solomiya Moroz started playing together through a shared interest in contemporary and electronic music, although their instruments and musical backgrounds could not be from more different worlds. Solomiya Moroz is a contemporary composer of Ukrainian-Canadian descent, flautist, electronic musician and interdisciplinary performer, interested in sound extension through electroacoustic synthesis, the theatricality of sound and its performance in chamber music. Volodymyr Voyt investigates the music of the avant-garde period bandura, playing in styles such as minimalism, baroque fusion, ethno-renaissance and more. In duo SAS, Volodymyr plays on a diatonal Kharkiv-style bandura, tuned microtonally.
