RSG/01 (Richard Steinitz Building, University of Huddersfield)

Keychange is a pioneering international initiative which empowers women to transform the future of music and encourages festivals to achieve a 50:50 gender balance by 2022. Led by PRS Foundation and supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, hcmf// is one of the many festivals across Europe and beyond that has signed up to the initiative. For this panel discussion, hcmf// Artistic Director Graham Mckenzie is joined by Francine Gorman (PRS Foundation), Aaron Cassidy (University of Huddersfield), musician Heather Roche and Swedish composer Malin Bång to explore whether this ‘gender imbalance’ begins at Higher Education and question whether conservatoires / other HE institutions are serving the requirements of the music industry for the future, as more and more festivals and concert spaces place greater awareness on gender and diversity as a priority.
