CoMA Festival, Saturday 3 March, Huddersfield

hcmf// and CoMA Festival are excited to present a day of free workshops at St Paul’s Hall on Saturday 3 March. These workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to explore improvised music-making and ensemble playing.

Workshop 1 explores noise, drone and improvisation. Sound artist Russell Gray invites you to bring your own ideas to life through chanting, banging and laughing. This workshop is open to everyone, with no musical experience necessary. This workshop will run from 1pm – 3pm.

Workshop 2 is an ‘open rehearsal’ session with teacher and composer Katie Warburton, who will guide you through inclusive ensemble playing. Pieces will include James Tenney’s In a Large Open Space and Zoë Martlew’s Slap-on. All instruments are welcome at grade 4/5+ standard. Participants at this workshop will be invited to perform the pieces they rehearsed together in a free, public concert taking place after the workshop, giving them the opportunity to apply what they have learned as a group. The workshop will run from 3.30pm – 5.30pm, followed by a performance from 6pm – 6.30pm.

Both workshops are suitable for ages 13+. If you are interested in participating in either workshop, or would like to receive further information, please email alex@hcmf.co.uk
